Mollie grew up in foster care and used food to comfort herself. “It was the only aspect of control I had growing up”. By the age of 10, Mollie was obese and would often be excluded from activities due to her weight. “As a child, being bigger meant I would always get left out of things with friends. I would just be sat at home eating. I remember having to buy adult size stuff for my school uniform. It was just terrible. I was the only one of my peers like this. I knew something was wrong.”
When Mollie turned 18 and left the foster care system, she weighed 378 lbs. She also suffered with pre diabetes, high blood pressure, and was only able to walk and stand for short periods due to her obesity. She feared if she didn’t do something to interfere she would die prematurely from her obesity. At her heaviest, Mollie weighed 420 lbs.
Mollie decided to undergo Gastric Sleeve surgery to help her lose the weight. A year following surgery she has lost one third of her body weight and is continuing to lose weight. She says she is currently losing an average of 7 lbs per week. Her current weight is 256 lbs.
Following surgery, Mollie has completely changed her diet around to healthier minded foods. Listed below is an example of her before surgery and after surgery diet for comparison. Mollie credits the surgery with saving and completely changing her life.
