This review is of my experience having Dr Kuri do a gastric sleeve on my husband. This review is of my experience being the “support” person & I will give a day by day account so it will be long. Day One: “Tuesday” Arriving in San Diego we were picked up by Dr Kuris wife and driven over the boarder to a lab where his pre-op blood work was done, she then drove us to Dr Kuris actual office where paperwork was finished up & final payment was issued ( we chose to only place the $500.00 deposit online & bring with us the $5,000 balance in the form of a cashiers check). From there we went downstairs to the pharmacy to fill my husbands pain medication he would need once he left the hospital, from there we were taken to the hotel they put you up in after surgery because I decided I did not want to stay in the hospital with my husband, not because there was anything wrong with the room but simply because I am spoiled :-) I got my room situated and we unloaded our bags & were taken to the hospital to have a face to face with Dr Kuri. Once that was done Dr Kuri himself drove us back to the hotel so my husband could have his “last supper” so to speak, lol we chose the Mexican restaurant next door which even with the language barrier was really good!! That same night my husband went back to the hospital to get checked in ahead of his surgery the next morning and have an EKG done. Day Two: “Wednesday” Surgery was performed that morning, my biggest complaint was that no one called me to let me know surgery was done and what room my husband was in and it’s not because they didn’t have my contact information as that is the number they called the day before to let us know his hospital room was ready. I finally decided to grab an Uber around 2pm and make my way to the hospital. I went into the main entrance and asked for someone who spoke English (I don’t know why I didn’t think to use translate on my phone?) This was the hardest thing I ran into (communication) I was told a nurse would come speak to me and after waiting 30+ minutes I decided to use translate on my phone and went back to main entrance and showed the security guy my phone asking if he could tell me what room my husband was in and he did, so once I located my husband even though he thought he had been ran over I felt a lot better!!! Once the anesthesia started to wear off and he was no longer talking “crazy” he was able to get up and start walking very slowly down the hall. Day Three: “Thursday” Catheter was removed which allowed for easier movement and the ability to put pj bottoms on. Day 4: “Friday” Drainage tube was removed & again Dr Kuri himself drove my husband back to the hotel where I was waiting for our new room which was part of our surgery package to become available. (During my husbands hospital stay I stayed in one of the hotels “apartments” which was a 2 bedroom apartment (remember I told you I was spoiled :-) Once we got into our new room the husband was feeling well enough to walk a few blocks to the convenient store to pick up some bouillon cubes. Day 5: “Saturday” Dr Kuris private driver picked us up from the hotel at 10AM and drove us back to the rental car place at the San Diego airport as we decided to spend an extra day before flying back home. His driver was very professional and pleasant. We had wonderful conversation with him on our drive. We felt horrible because we didn’t have any cash on us to tip him, the whole time in Mexico I took an Uber every where I needed to go which was mainly to and from the hospital as I had any food delivered by Uber eats and I was able to add tip to all those trips & deliveries via the app. All the cash we did have on us went to the gentleman at the hotel who wore many hats!!! (Valet, Security, Bell Hop) all of which he did very well. Getting into & out of Mexico was very easy!! Nvr felt unsafe even traveling alone. Hotel was very nice & Staff were wonderful!! I’m thinking of having the surgery myself nxt year. Good experience.
I had my gastric sleeve surgery June 30th. I was very impressed with how clean the hospital was, how friendly the staff was, how both the surgeon and the internal medicine Dr took the time to come in my room and visit with me and explain everything that was going to happen and just visit, amazing aftercare. I would recommend Dr. Kuri to anyone interested in having this surgery.

very caring warm professional Dr and associates. You will be in great hands with them.
I had my lapband surgery in 2005. I lost 100lbs in about 3yrs and have kept it off. No unusual problems. Dr. Kuri and his tam are great. I haven't had anything done to my band since 2011.
Excellent surgeon. Answered all my questions. The staff and facility were top notch and took such good care of me and my daughter.
awesome doctor and staff. my wife was in the very best hands. well worth the investment with dr kuri.
Dr. Kuri is highly experienced and very meticulous in his practice. Patients receive a thorough pre-op workup and excellent post-op care in the hospital. His staff are there to support you throughout the entire process. There is no one else I would trust for bariatric surgery than Dr. Kuri.
I had a Lap band done in 2012, I lost 58 lbs and I was having problems with my stomach, so in 2015 I had it the band removed and I had a gastric sleeve done instead. Since 2015 to now I have reached my weight loss goal and I was very happy with the results. I highly recommend Dr. Kuri!
12 years post op. Dr. Pedro Kuri is the best doctor bar none. highly recommended!
Dr. Kuri is the real deal. He is kind and compassionate and an excellent surgeon! He leaves no stone uncovered. He has his driver pick you up at the airport in San Diego and take you directly to a nice hotel. His driver picks you up and takes you to each of your pre op appointments. Literally everything is taken care of to make sure you feel safe and relaxed. He’s right there with you each step of the way. He provides you with a registered nurse that is there to answer all your questions long after you’ve come home from your surgery. I love Dr. Kuri. He is a good soul !
I traveled from Washington to Mexico to have my lap band removed & have a revision to the Gastric Sleeve. I made all the arrangements thru Joanne who is fabulous at her job! Our driver picked us up and treated us as if we were family. Iker you are one of a kind nothing short of an amazing person! God bless you! The entire experience was above & beyond what I anticipated. Dr Kuri is the kindest most sincere Doctor I have ever encountered. My surgery was a complete Godsend! 💕🙏 I can without a doubt highly recommend Dr. Kuri to perform your procedure of choice! My gratefulness for him is unspeakable! He is a gift! Many Thank you’s for your help in my situation 💕 Kindest regards~ Connie Botello
I had lapband surgery with Dr Kuri in 2002. Over time I lost 130lbs, kept it off until 16 years in. Due to an infection around the port/tubing, the band had...
Dr. Kuri placed my band in January. My American doctor who was following up overfilled it and caused me trouble. Dr. Kuri did imaging to find that my "defective" band that my American doctor wanted to convert to sleeve still had 2cc in it. He brought me up to 3ml and sent me on my way. It is working just fine with no further procedure necessary.
Dr. Kuri and his staff are wonderful. From your first encounters with Joanne, his patient coordinator, to his evening phone Call after you've been...
Dr Kuri and his team are an A+! I had gastric sleeve surgery in May of 2017. Dr Kuri has an excellent bedside manner, and I felt that he genuinely cares about each of his patients. The hospital staff was terrific, and the hospital was cleaner than any I've been to in the U.S. the hotel was pleasant, and our driver Carlos was great! The only problem I had was the language barrier, I wished I would've learned a little bit of Spanish before I went. Totally my fault, but I downloaded an app for that.
I had my lap band surgery a few years back I've lost over 250 lb and I've tried desperately to keep it off I'm up and down but that's part of my own issue doctor kuri helped me save my life he gave me a tool and it was up to me to use that tool his staff are all very supportive his coordinators were also the same I would highly recommend him and I would go back to him if I ever needed to I've sent many of a friend his way to do their surgeries
Had Lap-Band in 2011 and I've lost over a 100 lbs. So thankful!
I had the lap band surgery several years ago and Dr Kuri and his staff was amazing to me. I would recommend this Dr and Hospital to anyone. Was the cleanest and best kept facility I have ever been treated.
I had an awesome experience with Dr. Kuri and staff but having very difficult time finding somewhere to get a fill in Ontario Canada. can anybody help.
I have to admit I had a great experience However you need to clarify on what's free and what you have to pay extra for. Make sure you have access to a provider for fills as I have found this to be the bone of contention
