The ticking time bomb

If you have been banded you know that drinking carbonated beverages is a big no no. And it never seems to fail that I still talk to patients that are convinced that drinking diet soda is not a problem, because nothing happens. The sky did not open up and the walls did not come down around them. I respond with "that first cigarette does not kill you either" But some need more convincing. So if losing your band is not enough incentive to drop your bubbly habit, how about if you found out that for each can of diet soft drink consumed each day, increased a person’s risk of obesity went up 41%.

The Kuri Bandster Bash is a Blast

For the past 11 years, Dr. Kuri has hosted the most extravagant party for Lap-Band patients anywhere. This annual event, fondly known as The Kuri Bandster Bash, occurs every August and has become a favorite festivity among the Bandster community. Most who attend begin the countdown for the next year’s Bash the day after they leave! Each Bash is held in one of the finer hotels in the Tijuana area, and over the years has grown and transformed from a small celebration among banded patients to a themed party weekend with an emphasis on education and exercise to help inspire and motivate all.

Feel your fullness sounds simple—a ‘no brainer,’ right? Intuitive, one might say. For some people, eating just to the point where they feel full is an unconscious habit and they cannot imagine doing otherwise. For others, though, eating has become disconnected from physical sensations. For them, eating starts when it is time to eat, and ends when the plate is clean.
