Mother of two, Jess F decided to have Gastric Sleeve Surgery after receiving a serious warning from her doctors that her body was very unhealthy due to her weight and lifestyle. The 30 year old mother tipped the scales at 250 lbs and would often binge eat unhealthy foods. Jess decided to incrementally change her dieting habits replacing unhealthy snacking and binge eating with healthy substantive meals.
“I hated my weight for basically my entire adult life, and I would say some of my teen years too.” She said.
A year following surgery Jess was down over 100 lbs and continuing to lose weight. In addition to changing her diet, Jess began exercising and even got a personal trainer to help. She was very self conscious at first about having weight loss surgery to help her lose weight. She feared judgement from people for having the surgery, thinking people would think she was weak. She hired a personal trainer that turned out to be really great who helped her to develop a training plan tailored to her personal needs.
“I had very low self confidence and would use my weight as an excuse to not do things. It became something I hated but also something that was a safety net for me. It’s been a bit of a mental battle for myself to realize I didn’t cheat by getting surgery, it’s just a tool to kickstart my change in habits and it’s a tool that has saved my life.”
Today Jess is down to 145 lbs and has completely changed her life. “I am so much happier, I feel strong, I feel healthy, I feel like this is who I was always meant to be. The mental side is definitely a work in progress and something I’m focusing more on. My advice is to always remember your journey is your own, and to remind yourself of why you decided to start when times get tough. I am a lot more confident now in knowing what to do and how to do it when it comes to working out and making sure I am eating correctly.
